1. 可数名词单复同形：sheep, deer, means, aircraft, headquarters, species, series, peacock, works -ese: Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese(Portugal, n.) 外来单位词：yuan元， jin斤， liang两 2. 集合名词： A）谓语动词只能用单数的集合名词：（无生命的集合名词多用单数） machinery, equipment, furniture, merchandise [mз： t∫зndaiz ]商品， jewelry, poetry B）谓语动词只能用复数的集合名词： people, police, cattle, poultry, militia, vermin, folk, mankind C）谓语动词既可用单数又可用复数的名词，视意义而定， 表整体用单数，表具体成员用复数： class, family, team, group, audience, committee, crowd, pubic, government, council, village, staff, faculty, population, majority, etc. -- When Jack came, his family were watching TV. / His family is not very large. -- The class are taking notes in English. / The class is big. / That class has its final test on Friday. / The class are working on their homework. -- The majority are the girls. The majority agrees with me. / The majority of the guests have arrived. 3.以s结尾的名词 A）谓语动词用单数： 国名、政体名及其它专有名词：the United States美国the Unites Nations联合国， the Netherlands 荷兰， the New York Times纽约时报，*但是俱乐部、球队等集体专有名词一般用复数：England are playing Scotland in a football match next week. 表示学科名称的以—ics结尾的名词：physics, mathematics / maths, politics, economics *economics 经济学单，经济复；maths 数学单， 加减运算复： I find economics is the most difficult subject to study. It is believed economics in Taiwan are extremely unfavorable. Maths is well taught in Tom's school. Tom's maths are quick, so it is easier for him to get the job as a cashier. 疾病名称：measles 麻疹， 风疹 mumps腮腺炎， AIDS, rickets软骨病， 佝偻病 游戏：darts飞镖， marbles弹子， fives手球， bowls保龄球， draughts跳棋， billiards台球dominoes多米诺牌 *cards例外：Cards are not allowed here. B）谓语动词用复数 thanks谢意，wages, goods, clothes, archives档案文件， arms武器， fireworks爆竹，contents 内容， savings, earnings, winnings奖金， belongings, greetings致敬 成双成对出现的名词：trousers, shorts短裤， glasses, scissors, suspenders背带裤， pants, sleeves袖子， jeans, shades太阳镜 Trousers are not as fashionable as skirts. *当被pair等量词修饰时单复数由pair的单复数决定。

C）谓语动词可用单数也可用复数： 单复数同形，由具体句子所指决定：means, headquarters, works工厂， manners礼貌 The only works my father owns is a shoe-making factory. The works in my hometown add up to 500. 单复数意义不同：odds事情（单），可能性（复）；remains剩菜剩饭（单），遗体（复） What's the odds(matter)? // The odds are ten to one that his horse will not win the race. The remains of the meal yesterday goes sour. //The remains of his body were found yesterday. D）人名：以/s/音结尾的名词加s可用's代替。
