实际上阴入、中入、阳入声调的音高，与阴平、阴去、阳去是一样的，不过是用-p、-t、-k韵尾的入声字用以区分。由于声调的定义，是包括抑扬性（即实际音高）和顿挫性。而入声韵尾-p、-t、-k正是影响了其顿挫性。因此，即使只以1至6的六个数字标示，我们仍然要说是有九个声调，或者说有“九声六调”，不能称作只有六个声调。
