选A mountain valley。托福阅读有时候不需要认识单词，重在分析。本题问的是EXCEPT，所以马上可以排除最后两个选项，因为它们在倒数第三行是用or连接的，证明地位一致；而a mountain valley 和flat land 在一个句子中： a sediment-laden river or stream emerges from a mountain valley onto relatively flat land, dropping its load as the current slows：这个句子中认识emerge from （甚至只要认识from就行）和onto...和drop就够了，从mountain valley到flat land，然后drop，可见是drop到了后者——flat land上，所以选mountain valley。 我是英语老师，专攻阅读，其实阅读最大的障碍有时候不在于生词（托福阅读生词貌似恐怖，让人一下子摸不着头脑），只要会分析，脑子快，很多题一样能做对。
