I work in a private enterprise associated with waste water, so I want to talk about the Water Pollution Prevention Law in China. It was first passed in the 1980's by the National People's Congress, but then it was revised many times. The latest change to this law, as far as I know, took place in 2008, which was about the punishment of illegal discharge of sewage.

Then, let me talk about the contents of this law. It is made up of eight parts, or eight chapters, including the general principles, the rules about water monitoring, the rules about pollution prevention, discharge standards, and so on.

It is an important law as water crisis is exaggerating in China, and the government is taking actions to prevent and control water pollution. But at present, there're still some companies choosing pay the penalty fees instead of treating the polluted water. I think the punishment should be more detailed and harsher.
